What do you think about the Access Surgery Blog? Have you looked at it? Like the style? I keep pondering how to make this blog more relevant and useful.

Taking a blog break...teaching in Armenia

I will be teaching at the Yerevan State Medical University in Armenia from June 16-July 1. In concentrating on my curriculum, I have not had much time to blog about surgery. Please use the resource links to the right, and check out the ORlive schedule posted to the right. I did create a LibGuide for Emergency Medicine. If you are interested in me creating a LibGuide for a specific section of the Surgery Dept., please send me a message or post a comment!

LibGuides at Cushing/Whitney Medical Library

The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library has started a subscription to LibGuides, a simple and dynamic way to create customized resource collections that are integrated with Web 2.0 tools such as RSS feeds, chat boxes, polling, web videos, etc. By simple, I mean that it took me less than an hour to throw together my first experiment for Emergency Medicine. I'm considering doing one for each distinct Surgery Section at Yale. Do you think these would be more useful than this blog? Comments are accepted...

Tissue-engineered vascular patches- update

A review article by Yale pediatric surgeons Chistopher Breuer and Tamar Mirensky, The Development of Tissue-Engineered Grafts for Reconstructive Cardiothoracic Surgical Applications, was recently published in Pediatric Research. Breuer and Mirensky survey research advances in tissue-engineered cardiac valves, tissue-engineered cardiovascular patches, and tissue-engineered vascular conduits. I found this to be a very useful overview.

Clinical Trials -- Robotic Surgery

When the New York Times provided some awareness of the state of robotic surgery this past weekend, I wondered about the state of clinical trials for this method. According to PubMed, there are at least 122 clinical trials of robotic surgery, 35 of which were indexed as randomized clinical trials. The most recent randomized trials are creative, to say the least:
